About the Community
The name Carrot River is derived from the wild carrots growing alongside the river, which the first homesteaders crossed in 1911 to inhabit 6 miles-9.7km from its north bank. The Canadian National Railroad reached the town site in 1931 bringing southern farmers seeking new locations away from the great drought on the prairies. Carrot River became a Village in 1941 and incorporated as a Town on April 01, 1948. Currently we maintain an approximate combined Town and RM of Moose Range #486 population of 2000+. We have been described by non-community individuals as stubborn and ambitious .. stubborn as in resilient and ambitious as in visionary. With our proximity to field forest and water, local economic strengths lie in agriculture, industrial, service-related business and tourism. Realizing the need to get our community on the map and continue to develop economically, we went through an intensive/extensive process to officially brand (in 2015) Carrot River as SASKATCHEWAN’S OUTBACK. Fringing lakes rivers forests and the Pasquia Hills, everything we do is out-back .. That's Life Here.
